I have an interesting quote for you today about the relationship between diet and health.
Although the author says "bread" in the quote, he's really talking about food in general.
See if you can guess who said it:
"I know, too, that the body is affected differently by bread according to the manner in which it is prepared...
The influence of each process is considerable, and each has a totally different effect from another.
Each one of the substances of a man's diet acts upon his body and changes it in some way and upon these changes his whole life depends."
Know who said it?
Hippocrates. The Father of Modern Medicine.
He believed that the number one factor in determining someone's health (or lack thereof) was their diet and he helped his patients overcome illness naturally with their diet--FOOD was their medicine.
Although pharmaceutical drugs did exist back then, they were used only on very rare occasions.
Well, unfortunately, we’ve done…
A complete 180 to the “magic pill” mindset
Too bad "Modern Medicine" has done a complete 180.
Now we throw healthy diet habits to the wind and instead have subscribed to the "better living through chemistry" way of thinking and looking for magic pills to solve our woes.
And Hippocrates is probably rolling over in his grave.
Let's fast forward from Hippocrates' day (460-370 BC) to now:
- It's rare that someone isn’t on some kind of medication.
- Many people suffer side effects from their medications, for which more medications are prescribed.
- Your body can develop tolerance to the actions of medications, which necessitates a larger dose and/or stronger medication to achieve the same effect.
- Most mainstream doctors have little to no advice to give about diet because they take only one basic nutrition course in medical school.
And sadly, this reality and our current way of thinking have come back to bite us you-know-where.
Because now we’re dealing with…
Explosions in chronic disease
Isn't it interesting that, although we have continuing advances in testing, surgeries and drugs, our rates of chronic disease continue to explode?
Consider these facts:
- 7 out of 10 of us take at least one prescription medication per day
- 70 percent of US adults and 54 percent of our kids have a chronic condition
- 2 out of 3 of us are overweight or obese
- Heart disease and cancer continue to be our number one and two killers
Clearly our "better living through chemistry" way of thinking and our search for magic pills hasn't done a thing for our health, has it?
It’s trickled over into supplements too!
Our magic pill mentality has also trickled over into how we use supplements …and believe me, I hear about it. Clients ask me all the time what supplement they should be taking to transform their health.
And they seem almost annoyed when I say, “Well, first tell me about your diet.”
You can't have completely health-destroying eating habits and expect a pill to create health for you.
Supplements are meant to add to, support or enhance the power of a healthy diet—they are NOT designed to be a replacement for eating right or to magically "undo" the effects of a poor diet.
If you're a person who has been searching for magic pills, please stop.
Instead, let me tell you what you need to know to finally start feeling better.
We’ll start with…
The all-important step 1—your DIET
Let me be blunt here—if you continue to eat a nutrient-poor, processed diet, you can forget having any measure of health or achieving a normal bodyweight.
If you want any semblance of health, it’s essential to eat wholesome real foods that give your body the nutrients it needs to fight sickness and disease.
Do the majority of your grocery shopping in the outer perimeter of the store where the real foods are located.
Avoid the inner aisles—especially snack chips, cookies, candy, breakfast cereals, frozen or boxed entrees, soda, juice drinks, and energy drinks.
And if you have digestive issues, I can help you with my Great Taste No Pain system.
In Great Taste No Pain, I’ll show you what foods to pair together in your meals to pave the way for better digestion and less gas, bloating, constipation and heartburn!
Great Taste No Pain guides you to create meal combinations that work with—not against—your body’s digestive enzymes so your system can better break down all your foods down like it’s supposed to!
Step 2--Supplement as necessary and appropriate
Supplements are wonderful, but if you expect them to be a magic pill and replace a good diet, you will most assuredly continue to be sick and overweight.
So first take care of your diet like I mentioned above—then see what supplements you might need.
Although no one supplement is right for EVERYONE, most people can benefit greatly from a good, solid probiotic formula like Super Shield multi-strain probiotic formula.
Super Shield’s full-spectrum blend of 13 well-studied probiotic strains helps to support a properly balanced gut microbiome and encourage strong immune function.
Probiotics are especially important for people whose diets have included lots of refined carbs, soda, sugar and processed food; people taking medications; anyone who has taken antibiotics in the past (both oral and topical); people who have been exposed to toxins in the environment or at work; people under a lot of stress; and people who have had surgery.
You can check out our complete line of supplements to see what others may be right for your needs.
Now you know what you need to know!
By eating right and using whatever supplements are right for YOU, you will be taking the single most important step toward encouraging lifelong great health and prevention of disease.

To your health,
