What is the best medicine of all?

What is the best medicine of all?

There’s a loaded question!

What do you think is the best medicine of all?

Many people would say antibiotics.  Well, it’s true that they’ve saved lives, but they have also destroyed our gut microbiomes and spurred the development of “Superbugs” that resist our strongest antibiotics and can pose a threat to your life.

Others may say proton pump inhibitors (PPIs).   These drugs do what they’re supposed to—shut down your stomach acid so it can’t come rising up into your throat.  But this destroys your digestion (because acid is needed to break down proteins), reduces nutrient absorption (increasing your risk of fractures) and makes you more susceptible to food borne illness.

Plus, they increase your risk of heart attack, chronic kidney disease and dementia too!

And please, don’t mention statins or I’ll jump out the window.  This blog would be a book if I were to list all the dangers of shutting down your liver’s ability to make cholesterol.

So, what IS the best medicine of all?

The best medicine of all is to learn how to NOT need it in the first place.

When you take measures to create a better state of health in your body, you are naturally decreasing your chances of developing a sickness or disease and lessening your need for medications!

Now, there will always be times where medications are necessary and appropriate, but trust me, we have gone WAY overboard and have thrown healthy habits to the wind while we pop our meds and wait for them to create false health for us.

Oh, and of course when side effects pop up (which they undoubtedly will), there are other meds to address those too.

Listen, if you want to get on the road to real health and lessen your chances of needing medication, it’s not rocket science.

Here are the steps you need to take:

Step 1: Remember you are what you eat

If you eat processed junk, you can count on living a sickly, medicated existence—it’s a given.

What has worsened our nutritional ignorance is that many doctors to this day think that a healthy diet is irrelevant.

My sister’s doctor once told her that if she wanted to lose weight, she merely had to eat fewer than 1,500 calories a day.  He even told her she could eat nothing but Cheetos if she wanted—as long as it was under 1,500 calories.

I’m not joking.

But the great thing is no matter where you’re starting from, eating better foods will have a positive effect on your health!

The more you gravitate toward wholesome real foods, the more your body will thank you with things like less constipation, gas and bloating and more energy.

Eventually as your body becomes “cleaner” and nourished, you can also experience things like better sleep, fewer aches and pains, clearer skin, improved moods and even lower blood pressure!

If you need guidance on how to enjoy a healthy yet delicious diet, check out my Great Taste No Pain health system.

In addition to living up to the “Great Taste” promise by giving you a collection of luscious recipes, Great Taste No Pain shows you how to pair your foods together in your meals to promote smoother, more efficient digestion.

And that means bye-bye acid reflux, IBS, and much more!

Now, if weight loss is your main goal, my Want to Lose Weight? Stop Dieting! program is just what you need.

In addition to the same smart meal guidance as in GTNP, you’ll also get sound advice on how to choose an exercise activity that’s right for you, and how to eliminate many sneaky, hidden factors that may be preventing you from losing weight or packing the pounds on you.

Step 2: Supplement appropriately

Supplements are meant to help the body along in achieving and maintaining a strong state of health.  Since we are all different, our needs will be different too!  Here are some points to consider:

Better digestion and immune health

Probiotics like Super Shield multi-strain probiotic formula are pretty universally helpful because we ALL face challenges to our gut microbiome which can in turn hamper our digestion and impair our immune system functioning—two things that have a major impact on our health from head to toe.

Complete nutrition

It used to be that a multi-vitamin formula was only needed for people with poor diets, but that’s all changed.  The fact is, our food is not as nutritious as it used to be, plus factors like stress and medication use can affect your body’s ability to absorb and use nutrients from your foods.

So, a complete multi-vitamin formula like Super Core is a good idea for just about everyone.

Super Core also takes a giant step beyond typical multi-vitamins and provides natural sources of disease-fighting antioxidants and anti-inflammatories too!

Acid reflux and heartburn

If you’re troubled by acid reflux and heartburn a lot and are a slave to Tums or PPIs, Digestizol Max digestive enzyme formula can help turn that around!  Digestizol Max can pinch hit alongside your body’s own enzyme reserves and naturally pave the way for better digestion and no more acid reflux.

Aches and pains, high blood pressure

If aches and pains are your concern and you take NSAIDs, or you’re on dangerous meds for high blood pressure or cholesterol, a deficiency of Omega-3 fats may be the culprit behind your problems, and all the meds in the world can’t change that.

But a pure Omega-3 fish oil formula like VitalMega-3 can help by addressing the root cause of your problem.  VitalMega-3 provides the soothing, anti-inflammatory fats that your body desperately needs to control inflammation.

Autoimmunity, allergies, bone health

In addition to building strong bones, Vitamin D helps to tame the inflammatory immune reactions associated with autoimmune conditions (like lupus, Crohn’s, rheumatoid arthritis, hypothyroidism, etc.) as well as allergies, and it protects against cancer and heart disease too!

Unfortunately, Vitamin D deficiency is rampant in our society today, largely due to our fear of the sun and skin cancer.

To ensure your body maintains a health-supporting level of this crucial nutrient, Optimum DK formula with FruiteX-B is your ticket!

Optimum DK formula provides 5,000 IUs of Vitamin D3, as well as vitamins K1 and K2 and the mineral boron, which work together to protect you and support proper immune reactions.

Step 3: Move on a regular basis

Now, don’t roll your eyes at me!

Face the fact that you must get some form of exercise if you want any chance of staying disease and medication-free.

But you don’t have to run a marathon or go to a gym!  Even brisk walking is helpful.

There are also DVD programs you can use in the comfort of your own home.

If your mobility is limited, yoga has been shown to help improve flexibility and fitness.  Swimming is another good choice if you are looking for low-impact activities.

The important thing is, just do something.  Your body will thank you handsomely!

Step 4: Look for natural healthcare options

There are many wonderful options out there to help with various aches, pains and physical challenges that don’t involve medications!

Here are some to consider:

  • Physical therapy
  • Acupuncture
  • Chiropractic care
  • Hypnotherapy
  • Naturopathy
  • Meditation
  • Massage therapy
  • Biofeedback
  • Aromatherapy (check out our line of outstanding Mooseberry Essential Oils!)

I personally credit acupuncture and chiropractic care for making it possible for me to still be running marathons and doing full-impact karate as a 4th degree black belt at age 56.

Don't be a regular at the pharmacy

Although medications are unavoidable in some cases, they are not always the best answer or even necessary.

See what a difference you can make when you help to create health instead.

To your health,

Sherry Brescia

  • Hello Joanne,

Thank you for reaching out! We’d recommend cutting the ingredients to a smaller size (as you see fit) so you cook only what you need. You can also try to freeze some meals depending on what they are, so you can enjoy them later on. There are websites online that you can use to convert measurements into smaller amounts.

  • I love your foods. I wish the book had recipes for one or two meals for one person. I make them and end up eating them for days as I am the only one eating them. My husband will not touch any of them.

  • @ Linda…. Sorry Linda… I forgot to address your main question! :) As far as weaning off the Prilosec while taking the Enzymes… Enzymes alone will not help your acid reflux. In combination with eating real foods, proper food combining and all the other great things Sherry offers, you will be able to get off all that pharmaceutical stuff forever.

  • @Linda Hi Linda, I was in the same condition as you many years ago. I found Sherry’s book online and within 3 weeks I was off all medications for my acid reflux and hernia. The key is, as Sherry always says. EAT REAL FOOD! And properly combine those real foods. It’s now been over 10 years and I am still doing well without any medication. If I ever slipped and did not combine foods properly, my body spoke loud and clear! All the reflux and pain came back in an instant. This reminded me to “Get back on track” I promise you if you stick with the food combining and eat real foods and supplement properly you will be free too!

  • I’ve gotten away from taking all the good things I’ve learned from you Sherry, and am now on prescription strength Prilosec for my severe acid reflux and hiatal hernia. Should I stop the Prilosec before starting back on the Digestisol, or should I wean off the Prilosec while taking the Enzymes? I’d appreciate your feedback! Thank you for all your information and supplements!!!
