I think it’s safe to say that no one wants to age faster and sprint down the road to pushing up daisies.

Although many people are taking measures to slow down the aging process like exercising and reducing stress, one of the biggest bangs for your buck comes from your DIET.

Here are the 3 types of foods that you can count on making you look and feel older than your years:

Flour and sugar-based foods (refined carbs)

Flour and sugar-based foods (refined carbs) such as pasta, breads, bagels, cereals, crackers, muffins, and baked goods can cause a tremendous influx of sugar in your bloodstream. 

Sugar is a very inflammatory substance—so if your veins are loaded with it day in and day out, to a level that’s far above what you need for energy, you are inviting inflammation to take its toll on YOU.

And that can come out as things like aches and pains, arthritis, cancer, high blood pressure, heart disease and wrinkles!

Corn-based foods

These include things like corn chips, corn cereals, corn oil, and the biggest health-wrecking corn substance of all--high-fructose corn syrup (HFCS)!

Like the refined carbs mentioned above, corn-based foods also have a big impact on your blood sugar levels and therefore can increase inflammation and accelerate aging.

But it gets worse.

Because scientists have found out that the fructose in HFCS causes a tidal wave of compounds called “Advanced Glycation End Products” to form.  (The acronym for these is “AGEs”—very appropriate!)

AGEs speed up the aging process in your body including damage to your organs, your joints, and of course, wrinkled skin.

And since HFCS is everywhere (in ketchup, salad dressing, barbecue sauce and the biggest offender—soda) many people are getting a daily dose of accelerated aging on a plate or in a glass.

Unhealthy fats

Unhealthy fats include trans-fats, processed vegetable oils (like canola, safflower, sunflower, sesame, corn, grapeseed and cottonseed oils) and margarine.

Trans-fats are created when food manufacturers infuse hydrogen into polyunsaturated oils to create solid oils--otherwise known as partially hydrogenated oils (PHOs).

Trans-fats should be labeled with a skull and crossbones.  They cling onto your arteries and tissues, increase blood cholesterol, lead to atherosclerosis and inflammation and practically guarantee that you'll be a heart disease statistic. 

Note that the FDA called for trans-fats to be phased out of our (processed) food supply between 2015 and 2018, but read labels carefully because food manufacturers tend to “bend the rules” whenever they can.

In addition, food companies may instead use processed vegetable oils as a “healthier” alternative, but don’t be fooled.  When these oils are heated (as they typically are in the food manufacturing process) they create dangerous compounds that are just as harmful as trans-fats!

Note that includes margarine, because margarine is made with heated polyunsaturated oils.

Omega-3 essential fatty acids
