I think it’s a fair statement to say that most people don’t want cancer to become a part of their lives.

Agreed?

But unfortunately, boatloads of people have habits that practically roll out the red carpet for cancer to come calling!

Nowhere is this more prevalent than in our diets

Studies have shown repeatedly that sugar feeds cancer and that a large intake of highly refined salt (especially in processed or fast foods) increases your cancer risk, yet I still see people’s carts loadedwith cookies, crackers, chips, boxed dinners, white bread and soda at the grocery store, and the line of cars outside of the drive-thru window at McDonald’s is always a mile long.

But the good news here is just as eating the wrong foods can increase your cancer risk, eating the right foods can help protect you against it!

Here is a list of foods that really pack a punch in terms of protecting against or ameliorating cancer and they also happen to be delicious!

Exceptional cancer-fighting foods
Alfalfa sprouts—these help detox the body, assist in assimilation of nutrients and contain phytoestrogens that block certain cancers.  Use in salads or on sandwiches.

Almonds—contain phytosterols that help fight cancer and lower cholesterol.  Eat alone or use as a topping for salads or cooked vegetables.

Apples—these literally “keep the doctor away” by promoting healthy gut flora and reducing your risk of heart disease and certain cancers.  Best eaten raw.

Asparagus—this is the vegetable which is highest in glutathione, an anti-carcinogen.  Lightly steam or roast with olive oil.

Beans and legumes—contain a compound (diosgenin) that inhibits cancer cells from multiplying and isoflavones that help prevent against heart disease and cancer.  There are endless possibilities here for delicious dishes including soups, stews and chilis.

Berries—their ellagic acid is a potent anti-oxidant, it blocks activation of carcinogens and helps keep DNA from mutating (which is how cancer “starts”).  Eat alone for breakfast or as a first course of a meal.

Cabbage family—these superstars inhibit cancer formation, detoxify carcinogens and protect against digestive and respiratory system cancers.  These include all varieties of cabbage plus broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, mustard greens, kale, arugula and even horseradish.

Carrots—these help support elimination of wastes and are an anti-carcinogen.  Use as part of a crudité platter, add to salads or roast with a touch of olive oil.

Citrus fruits—these contain a whopping 58 known anticancer agents!  They’re also high in bioflavonoids which help the liver break down carcinogenic substances.  Just beware of grapefruits, as too much of them or their juice can inhibit your liver’s ability to detox.

Fennel—this too is a natural anti-carcinogen and contains quercetin which is helpful for cancer patients following radiation and chemotherapy.  Use just as you would celery.

Fermented foods—they help your body produce natural antibiotics and anti-carcinogen compounds.  Good choices here are sauerkraut, kefir, yogurt, kimchee, apple cider vinegar, miso, tempeh and tamari.

Garlic—its sulfur compounds inhibit tumor metabolism and enhance immune responses.  Best eaten raw in salads or salad dressings.

Ghee (clarified butter)—a natural anti-carcinogen.  Used heavily in Indian cooking.

Melons—their beta-carotene is a natural anti-carcinogen.  Eat alone for breakfast or as a first course of a meal.

Mushrooms—they are anti-carcinogenic and help stimulate the immune system.  Good choices are shiitake, maitake and reishi.  Add to soups, stews and pizza or sauté as a topping for beef or chicken.

Onions—it’s hard to be these little wonders.  They lower cholesterol and are a strong antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antibiotic, antiviral, anti-parasitic and anti-carcinogen!  They are extremely versatile and can be added to just about any dish to enhance flavor.

Parsley—in addition to being a natural anti-carcinogen, it also helps to purify the blood, regulate the bowels and supports your kidneys, liver and gallbladder.  Use in salads, salad dressings, sauces and in grain and rice dishes.

Tea—both black and green version inhibit tumor growth, help prevent heart disease, strengthen the immune system and are potent antioxidants.

But that’s just the tip of the iceberg!

Incorporating more of these cancer-fighting superstar foods into your diet will go a L-O-N-G way in protecting you against this dreaded disease, but that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

Here are five other very important measures you can take to help keep our #2 killer far away from YOU:

1) Quit smoking

I know--this one should be pretty obvious by now.

But I continue to see people lighting up wherever I go!  So clearly there's been a disconnect somewhere in people getting this message.

Plus remember you are not the only one you're harmingwith your smoke--the dangers of second-hand smoke are documented and very real.

Countless times I have had to hold my breath when entering a building because I don't want to breathe in the poison from all the smokers huddled at the entrance puffing away.

If you smoke, please quit.  Millions of people have done it before you and it's not impossible.

If you need help, that's nothing to be ashamed of.  There are lots of stop smoking programs and aids out there.  Pick one and put that cancer-loving habit behind you for good.

Believe me, your body will thank you in ways you can’t even imagine.

2) Exercise regularly

Regular exercise helps rid your body of toxic wastes, and since cancer needs a toxic environment in order to thrive, when you exercise and help keep your innards clean, you are putting out a "No Vacancy" sign for cancer.

Now, don't start with your "I can't exercise because __________" excuses!

If you think you don't have the time, that's simply not true.  You HAVE the time for anything you MAKE the time for, and that includes exercise.  Make the time for it.

If you're self-conscious about going to a gym, that's OK.  Get some home equipment or a DVD instead.

If you have physical limitations, work around them.  For example, if you have a bad back and can’t do high impact exercise, then try cycling or swimming.

If you're on a tight budget, as far as I know, walking is free (except for the cost of sneakers which you probably already own).

Just be sure to get your doctor’s OK especially if you’ve been inactive for a while.

3) Get enough vitamin D

There’s an interesting phenomenon going on these days with respect to vitamin D.

Vitamin D is essential for cancer prevention (due to its role in your immune system health), yet most people shun the sun (which is how your body produces vitamin D) because they’re concerned about cancer!

So what results is countless people are deficient in vitamin D AND are at an increased risk for cancer—the very thing they intended to prevent!

Since vitamin D is in very few foods, supplementation has been literally a life saver for many.

And when it comes to vitamin D, nothing beats Dr. Salerno’s Vitamin D-K Factor!

Jam-packed with 5,000 IUs of vitamin D as well as 550 mcg of its partner vitamin K, Vitamin D-K Factor can help boost your immune system health, thereby aiding in the prevention of cancer and heart disease, as well as autoimmune conditions.

Plus there’s the obvious nod to bone health too!

4) Nourish your body with a healthy diet and encourage good digestion
This is far and away THE #1 most important anti-cancer measure you can take.

The National Cancer Institute and the American Cancer Society estimate that at least 30-35% of all cancers are related to a poor diet!

The great news is, having this ever-important healthy diet and promoting good digestion is not only easy, but it tastes good too.

That is, if you follow the Great Taste No Pain health system, or if you're gluten-sensitive, Great Taste No Gluten.

Both the Great Taste No Pain and Great Taste No Gluten systems will show you how to create healthful, nutritious meals (featuring many of the anti-cancer foods mentioned earlier) that are not only positively delicious, but are also easier for your system to break down.

When your digestion is accomplished more easily and thoroughly, not only will you be helping to eliminate toxic waste build-up, but you'll also help maximize your body's absorption of cancer-fighting nutrients from your foods!

5)  The impressive 1-2 punch from healthy gut flora

Having a strong population of healthy gut flora can actually help prevent cancer in TWO ways.

The first way that most of us are familiar with is that they help support your immune system.

But now another gut-cancer connection is emerging.

Researchers from UCLA's Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center (JCCC) have observed that certain types of dangerous bacteria that can be present in your intestinal tract are major contributors to lymphoma (cancer of the white blood cells).

So clearly it's becoming increasingly important to ensure that you have a healthy flora balance in YOUR gut.

In addition to a healthy diet like I mentioned in #4 above which nourishes your friendly flora, probiotic supplementation can help you achieve this important, possibly life-saving goal.

Super Shield's 13 strains of friendly bacteria are up to this potentially life-saving task.

As soon as they arrive "on the scene," Super Shield's impressive "army" lines your intestinal walls, helps crowd out unhealthy bacteria, and helps keep your digestion smooth (so carcinogens and dangerous bacteria can be eliminated with your bowel movements instead of becoming a part of you).

This will help keep your intestinal flora balance where it needs to be and help build a strong, cancer-fighting immune system!

Cancer continues to be a very effective killer, but that doesn't mean you are completely defenseless against it.

When you adopt healthy habits, help encourage your body's natural defenses and make yourself a less attractive home to cancer, you are taking giant steps toward fighting it and keeping it FAR away from you...for good.

I can’t think of anything more important than that.

To your health,
