August is National Wellness Month and is an ideal time to prioritize self-care, reduce stress and create healthier habits.

But sadly, when I look around it appears a lot of people didn’t get the memo. Instead, they are suffering from one or more chronic health conditions, medicated to the hilt, struggling to walk, laboring to breathe and/or looking older than their years.

To be fair, a lot of this is caused by mainstream medicine and its undying partnership with pharma coupled with ignorance about diet and exercise. People are conditioned to “trust their doctors” about everything, but when medication is the only answer offered, “wellness” takes a hike and symptom masking is about the best you’re going to get.

But the good news is it’s never too late to improve your health! Your body is an amazing creation that was meant for optimal health—not disease—and even small measures in the right direction can put you on a path to feeling much better!

It’s time!

If my words above resonated with you, then listen up.

It’s time for YOU to choose health and wellness…because if you don’t, disease will be more than happy to choose you.

Now don’t worry! You don’t have to tackle a mountain of significant changes all at once! Take baby steps.

Because small steps in the right direction eventually add up and can make a significant difference!

Here are four very simple yet effective steps you can take in the direction of better health:

Step 1: Pay a visit to the produce department

If your only vegetables of late have been fries, mashed potatoes and onion rings, it’s time to work in some green stuff, my friend.

Commit to eating just one tossed salad a day, even if your version of “salad” is iceberg lettuce with dressing. It’s a start.

Plus, you can roast many vegetables and make an easy, delicious side dish. Brussels sprouts, asparagus, carrots, broccoli and zucchini all work well. Just drizzle with melted butter, season as desired and roast at 400° until crisp-tender. Use a cast iron pan if you’ve got one.

Note that you can also get a grill basket and grill your veggies!

If you’re pressed for time, you can even prepare canned or frozen vegetables and dress them up with butter, herbs like basil, rosemary or oregano, grated cheese, a drizzle of balsamic vinegar and honey, lemon zest or pesto.

Also, when dining out opt for coleslaw, a side salad or the vegetable of the day instead of fries, mac and cheese, rice, mashed potatoes or pasta for side dishes.

Step 2: Move it

Yes, Sherry the drill sergeant is talking about exercise.

If you don’t engage in some form of movement, pigs will fly before you achieve better health.

Note that exercise doesn’t have to be drudgery—even walking around your neighborhood is helpful! If you’ve got a dog, even better. Take the dog for a walk and you’ll both improve your health.

You can also use a DVD program, get some home equipment like a treadmill or exercise bike, swim, use free weights or join a gym.

If you struggle to stay motivated, get an exercise buddy! My martial arts training partner Mariana and I work our tails off at MMA classes, punching, kicking, throwing each other to the ground and sweating like crazy, but we talk and laugh the time away and end up having a ton of fun.

And we earned our MMA black belts together this past April, side by side and supporting each other through a grueling 8-hour test.

Step 3: Cover all nutritional bases

Every disease in existence has its roots in one or more nutrient deficiencies.

So, if your diet history has been less than stellar (be honest), then chances are good you may be running short on a variety of nutrients.

Incorporating healthier foods (see Step 1 above) is the best way to start getting precious nutrients, but sadly many of our crops are not as nutritious as they once were. To help ensure all your bases are covered and your body has what it needs, our Super Core multi-vitamin and mineral formula is your ticket!

Super Core provides a health-supportive dose of a variety of essential vitamins and minerals, plus a blend of natural antioxidants and anti-inflammatories which further support your battle against disease.

Step 4: Pamper your gut

It’s been said that “death begins in the colon” and that statement has a lot of truth to it.

When you consider that your intestinal tract affects EVERY SINGLE CELL in your body (and there are trillions of them), those words ring very true.

And the level of health in your intestinal tract (aka your gut) truly does either save your life or lead you down a path toward disease and ultimately death!

Your gut has three major life-saving responsibilities:

1- Absorb nutrients

2- Eliminate wastes

3- House the majority of your immune system

Each of those functions affects you from head to toe, so if your intestinal tract is slipping in any of those areas, it’s not a matter of if but merely when will you get sick…and how serious will it be.

Supporting a healthy gut environment boils down to two important steps:

1. Replenish helpful bacteria in your microbiome

Our Super Shield Multi-Strain Probiotic formula can help replenish your supply of helpful gut inhabitants and support a healthier microbiome population!

All 13 of Super Shield’s outstanding, well-studied probiotic strains carry out their unique “specialties” in how they enhance your health, plus together they provide strong support for your gut wall and immune system and protection against dangerous pathogens.

2. Eliminate gut-harming factors

Remove, reduce and avoid things that can harm your gut microbiome, including:

  • Foods that you are sensitive or allergic to
  • Cigarette smoke
  • Soda
  • Excessive alcohol (especially beer)
  • Refined carbs and sugars
  • Unhealthy fats like vegetable oils, seed oils and margarine
  • Processed and fast food
  • Antibiotics, acid reducers and birth control pills
  • Regularly lacking sleep
  • Stress
  • Tap water

Now you are armed with truly effective strategies to help create a healthier you!

Please do it for yourself and your loved ones.

                      To your health,

                      Sherry Brescia
