10 smart tips for a longer, healthier life

As much as I would like to say otherwise, despite all our scientific and medical “advances,” we’ve reached a very dismal point in our human existence.

For the first time ever, children of today are not expected to live as long as their parents did.

There are many factors that are contributing to this grim fact—overuse of pharmaceuticals, environmental toxins, degradation of our food supply, and unhealthy lifestyle habits are some of the major ones.

But the good news is you can do a LOT to help reverse this disturbing trend and support a long, healthy life—for you and your children!

Here are…

10 smart tips for a longer, healthier life

Long life tip #1:  Eat real food

Your body was designed to eat real foods—not processed, packaged, chemical-laced garbage that does nothing but add to the food manufacturer’s bottom line and make you sick and fat.

“Real foods” means fresh vegetables, fruits, dairy, meats, poultry, fish, eggs and healthy fats (like butter, coconut oil and olive oil).  These are the foods that are perfect for your body’s needs.

Processed foods, on the other hand, not only do NOT nourish you (don’t be fooled by their added synthetic nutrients that are nothing but a marketing gimmick), but they also create tremendous amounts of wastes that are difficult for your body to eliminate.

A toxic body overrun with wastes is a perfect home for disease to flourish.

Long life tip #2:  Support sound digestion

Your health and life depend on sound digestion!

Digestion dictates how well you absorb vital nutrients and eliminate disease-causing wastes…so if yours isn’t going along so well (and judging by how many people use acid reducers and laxatives, that’s pretty likely), it will take its toll on you.

The key to efficient digestion is two-fold—make your meals easier for your body to tackle and provide some enzyme support if needed.

My Great Taste No Pain system can help you with the meal part.  It shows you how to create delicious meals from wholesome, yummy foods that are a snap for your system to digest.

Plus, it delivers on the “Great Taste” promise—ALL of the recipes in the plan are positively scrumptious!

Sound digestion also requires adequate enzymes, but many people are lacking in this area.  This is especially true if you are over 50, have used acid reducers, have had your gallbladder removed or have had gastric surgery (including bypass).

If you feel enzymes may be an issue, Digestizol Max enzyme formula can help support your body’s needs.

Digestizol Max’s complete blend of 15 plant-derived enzymes can help pinch hit where your system may be running short and pave the way for better, more thorough digestion (and less heartburn too!).

Plus its soothing herbal formula (including ginger, fennel and peppermint) can help cool an inflamed GI tract.

Long life tip #3: Drink 8 glasses of water a day

Water keeps you hydrated, cleanses the garbage out of your cells, eases constipation and even helps reduce pain!

Eight 8 oz. glasses a day should be your minimum.

Always choose filtered water—never, ever tap water.  Strive to look for filtration options that remove both chlorine and fluoride.

Long life tip #4: Commit to regular exercise

Now, don’t roll your eyes at me!  You may loathe exercise, but trust me, you don’t stand a snowball’s chance in you-know-where of having any measure of health if you don’t get some exercise.

But the good news is, if you use your imagination, exercise can be fun and very addicting!

Pick an activity you like or at will at least tolerate.  Brisk walking is a good choice and just about anyone can do that.  In addition, lots of people (especially women) love to dance, so if dancing is your thing, sign up for a dance class!  I took several dance classes in my late 20s and early 30s and had a ball while getting fit.

Make your goals realistic.  Trying to run five miles when you’ve never run farther than from the couch to the refrigerator and back during a commercial is not realistic.  Start with small doable goals and build up.  That’s how I went from light jogging to running three full marathons—one small goal at a time.

Get an exercise buddy.  You’ll be less likely to skip a workout if you have someone counting on you to show up.  My friend Liana and I have been exercise buddies for 16 years—we’ve gone through thousands of miles of running and five karate black belt tests together, and had a boatload of fun throughout.  Here we are after our 3rd degree black belt test back in 2013.

You can also work some exercise into your daily activities!  Park farther away from the door at the store or mall, take the stairs instead of the elevator, go for a brief walk after lunch, or even stand up and do leg lifts while taking a phone call (as long as you don’t have to take notes)!

Long life tip #5: Reduce stress

Nothing will make the grim reaper arrive faster than to be under constant chronic stress.

Stress weakens your immune system, encourages elevated blood glucose levels, impairs your mental functioning, causes you to stress eat (and gain weight) and is a factor in high blood pressure and digestive conditions like irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).

There are several stress reduction measures such as counseling, meditation, yoga, prayer, exercise and deep breathing.

Many people have also reported that it has helped them to take up a hobby or adopt a pet.  I can say that my three adopted cats are some of the best natural stress reducers I’ve ever had!

Long life tip #6: Support a healthy gut microbiome

Your friendly gut bacteria help with digestion but that’s just the beginning.

They also manufacture B vitamins, improve nutrient absorption, enhance your immune system functioning, encourage normal cholesterol levels and blood pressure, support mental health and even beef up your metabolism!

To help support a healthy gut microbiome, it's important to supplement with a full-spectrum probiotic formula like Super Shield that contains strains from both the Lactobacillus (for the small intestine) and Bifidobacterium (for the colon) species.

Super Shield’s 13 well-studied probiotic strains have been helping to create healthy guts for over a DECADE, and our loyal clients would never be without their Super Shield!

Long life tip #7: Get a good laugh

Laughter is a natural stress-reducer, it helps release endorphins (feel-good chemicals), eases depression, stimulates circulation, lessens pain and it even enhances your immune system functioning!

Take time to laugh each day by watching comedies or reading jokes or funny stories.

Long life tip #8: Say goodbye to the cigs (and that includes e-cigs)

This should be obvious, but I’ll say it anyway—please, PLEASE do whatever you need to do to quit smoking, and that includes vaping.

I know vaping has been positioned as a “safer” alternative to traditional cigarettes, but that’s simply not true.  E-cigs have their own set of health dangers (including popcorn lung), so you are merely trading one poison for another.

Acupuncture and hypnosis have both been shown to be very effective.

Long life tip #9: Get 7-9 hours of sleep each night

Not getting enough sleep takes its toll on you in numerous ways.  It can:

  • Lower your immune function
  • Trigger chronic pain
  • Accelerate the aging process
  • Worsen depression
  • Encourage overweight and obesity
  • And even cause your brain to shrink!

Long life tip #10: Rely on pharma only when absolutely necessary and embrace natural measures

There are times when pharmaceutical drugs are needed.  But trust me, we have gone WAAAAYY overboard in our reliance on pharma to “create” health for us.

Hear this:  Health CANNOT be found in a prescription bottle.  Health instead is mainly dictated by your diet and lifestyle habits!

Also, most conditions that are treated with drugs can instead be treated naturally with nutrients and herbs!

For example, Omega-3 fish oil (like VitalMega-3) has been shown to be very helpful with depression, inflammation and high blood pressure.

Vitamin D3 (found in Optimum DK Formula with FruiteX-B) can help with allergies, asthma, eczema, autoimmune conditions and other inflammatory immune reactions.

The mastic gum, ginger root, licorice root and marshmallow root in Gastro BeCalm Blend have been very effective in easing heartburn and fighting H. pylori infection (the bacterial infection that causes most ulcers).

And turmeric (found in Optimal Turmeric Blend) has outperformed aspirin and ibuprofen in terms of reducing inflammation and been more effective than NSAIDs in easing arthritis pain, without the risk of GI bleeding or other side effects of NSAIDs!

Get going on supporting your better health and longer life now!

To your health,

Sherry Brescia

  • That was a fantastic read. I would suggest every reader to avoid eating out and think of developing one useful hobby that requires movement. As mentioned in the article, park your vehicle at a distance and increase your daily walk. Drinking enough water not only flushes out the toxins but can also reduce your hunger pangs. I hope all the readers follow all essential points to keep themselves healthy and safe.
