My top 10 cancer prevention tips

Despite billions of dollars being spent on research and the “war on cancer,” the cancer death rate in this country has decreased only slightly in the last 60 years or so.

The good news is, it has been estimated that at least half of all cancer deaths can be prevented!

Here are the top 10 measures that I consider to be the most effective at reducing your risk of becoming a cancer statistic:

1- Support your intestinal flora balance

This is arguably the most important thing you can do.

Your immune system protects you against cancer, and most of that immune system resides in your gut.  So truly, the gut is where it’s at in terms of cancer prevention!

Daily supplementation with an outstanding probiotic formula like Super Shield will help ensure that you have a health-supporting population of friendly bacteria that will encourage your immune system to stay sharp and strong.

2- Quit smoking

I know—this one should be obvious.

But I still have to hold my breath when I walk into office buildings because of the poisonous cloud created by the smokers hanging out near the doorway.

Clearly, there are still a great many people smoking and putting out the welcome mat for cancer for themselves and others (with their secondhand smoke).

3- Limit sugars and refined carbs

Sugar feeds cancer, period.  (As well as heart disease, obesity and Type 2 diabetes, among other things.)

This includes all forms of sugar, plus refined carbohydrates like pasta, white bread, crackers, cookies, chips, pastries, and cakes—which turn to sugar upon digestion.

4- Beef up your consumption of fresh vegetables

Simply put, start working in more veggies other than potatoes and corn.

You can roast just about any vegetable by drizzling it with olive oil, seasoning with salt, pepper, herbs and spices, and cooking it in a 400° oven until crisp-tender.

And now that grilling season will soon be upon us, get a grill basket, cut up a bunch of different vegetables and cook them right on the grill alongside your meat.

5- Choose meats wisely

Strive to buy organic meats—that is the only way you can be assured of getting meat from animals that have not been treated with antibiotics and hormones, and that have not been fed GMO feed and/or grains that are laced with glyphosate.

And stay away from processed meats, especially those preserved with nitrates.  If you love your bacon, look for organic, nitrate-free varieties.

6- Stay away from “lab created” foods

These include foods that are highly processed and contain ingredients you can’t pronounce, foods that are labeled low-fat, fat-free or sugar-free, margarine, genetically engineered foods and artificial sweeteners.

Try to make this your motto:  If man made it, don’t eat it.

7- Get sources of Omega-3 essential fatty acids

The Omega-3 essential fatty acid Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) has been shown in studies to help inhibit the growth of certain cancers.

Foods sources of Omega-3 EFAs include cold-water fatty fish; meats, eggs, and milk from grass-fed animals.  Plus a fish oil formula like VitalMega-3 can help ensure you’re getting enough of these health-supporting, natural anti-inflammatories.

8- Get regular exercise

Notice I said, “regular” and “exercise” in the same phrase.

Regular means at least 3-4 days a week, and exercise means a physical activity that raises your heart rate and makes you sweat.  Just remember to get your doctor’s OK first.

No more excuses about not having the time.  Make the time…or else disease will make the time for you.

9- Embrace the power of garlic

Garlic is a health megastar--thanks to its sulfur compounds, it can slow or prevent the growth of tumor cells.

Fresh garlic can be added to many foods including roasted or sautéed vegetables, salad dressings, dips, Italian dishes, and soups.

10- Get enough Vitamin D

Vitamin D has been shown to be an important player in protecting your body against several cancers.

Since many people have limited sun exposure, vitamin D is a common deficiency, so supplementation with a top-notch formula like Optimum DK Formula with FruiteX-B can help ensure your bases are covered with this essential, cancer-fighting nutrient.

There are many other ways to help prevent cancer, but these 10 will give you the biggest bang for your buck to help keep our #2 killer far away from you!

To your health,

Sherry Brescia
